Detailed maps are available on a customised Lonely Mountain Ultra Google Maps page.
GPX files are also available for each course. Links for detailed online course maps are below each map on our event pages.
The easiest way to view a GPX file as a map is using Google Maps:
- Open the Google Maps menu and selecting Your places.
- Select Maps → Create map.
- A new Google Maps window opens. In that window, select the Import button that appears underneath the Untitled layer.
- Upload your GPX file. The map data the file contains will appear in Google Maps.
There are also lots of apps that can import a GPX file for viewing as a map: Strava, Garmin BaseCamp, FatMap, RunGo and many others.
There will be signage at key points on the course, as well as marshalls at critical points. Coloured tape will also be used to mark each race course.
We strongly encourage participants to review course maps in detail. Participants in the 22K and longer races must carry a copy of the map with them.
Full details will be included in our Event Guide once published.
Poles are permitted for participants in Lonely Mountain Ultra. If you’ll feel safer using poles to help with uneven terrain, distributing your weight and getting better footing, by all means, please feel free to do so. Please just be conscious of others around you!
We will collect anything left behind on the trail, at the aid stations or at the event village and keep these items in our Lost & Found until 31st October 2024. If you have lost something please email info@lonelymountainultra.com.au and if we have found it you can make arrangements to collect. After the 31st October any items not claimed will be donated to charity.
Pacers are allowed for the 104K and 100M events only. Pacers can join their runner for the last loop (22K) of the 104K course and for the last two loops (32k and 22k) of the 100M course. There can only be one pacer out with a runner per loop. For the 100M, a different pacer can be used for each loop or the same pacer can be used for both loops. If a different pacer is used, the pacers will switch when the runner comes through the transition tent. At no time will a runner have two pacers with them on course.
All pacers must register, paying a $10 pacer registration fee. Pacers will be issued a race bib just like other runners. This must be worn at all times on the course.
As pacers are running the 32k and/or the 22K course, they are required to comply with rules for all runners, including the mandatory gear specified on the Race Day Info page. Pacers must start the loop with their runner and must stay with them until the finish. If a runner withdraws, the pacer cannot continue. No physical assistance is allow such as carrying a pack; only pacing and motivation.

Orange has four seasons and springtime is generally moderate, but can be rainy. Weather can vary a lot in Orange. We’re at a higher altitude than the coastal cities so it can be cooler and drier. In late October, the averages are a high of 18 degrees and low of 7 degrees. But keep your eye on the weather forecast as things can change!
We encourage training on the trails. Please note – there is some construction planned at times in the area so it’s best to check the National Parks website. Volunteering with Lonely Mountain Ultra
Lonely Mountain Ultra simply couldn’t happen without our volunteers. We’d love to have you join us. See our Volunteers Page for more information and a link to the form to sign up.
All volunteers will receive priority entry into next year’s event, with 25% off Early Bird prices during a one week priority entry period before general entries open, as well as a hat and buff. Food and drink will be provided for longer shifts. And you’ll have our thanks and appreciation, it goes without saying!
For outdoor shifts, it’s important that you come dressed for the role and the weather. The area can be cold, particularly overnight and volunteers can get chilly if they’re not moving a lot. We recommend warm clothes including layers, and wet weather gear if needed. Good footwear is also essential. If your volunteer role includes a night shift, please also bring a headlamp or torch.
We work to minimise waste at our event, so we do ask volunteers to bring their own drink bottle. Your volunteer email confirmation will include any other details specific to your role.
